Steelers WR Antonio Brown on toe injury: ‘I’m feeling a lot better’

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown didn’t appear to have any problems with his toe on Monday night against the Cincinnati Bengals.

He appeared on the injury report the Friday before the game against the Bengals, and his status wasn’t decided until Monday. Brown hauled in 8 receptions for 101 yards and a touchdown.

On Friday, Brown was a full participant in practice after having to sit out on Thursday. He is not a fan of missing practice.

“I never want to play a game without practicing, via the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Ray Fittipaldo. “That’s not ideal for me. I’m a guy who wants to be out there and take every rep to get a great feel and preparation. But last week was less fortunate for me. It was a challenge. I was grateful I was able to pull through,” Brown said, but I’m grateful for this week and excited about this opportunity to be out there with my guys.

“The arrow’s pointed up. I’m feeling a lot better.”

Brown will have to miss practice when he’s banged up. His healthy presence on game day is crucial to the Steelers’ hopes of winning a Super Bowl. Through 12 games he has 88 receptions for 1,At this point of the season,296 yards and 9 touchdowns.

Pittsburgh Steelers players and fans showcased an outpouring of support for injured linebacker Ryan Shazier on Sunday night at Heinz Field.

During pregame warm-ups for the matchup with the rival Ravens, dozens of Steelers wore black T-shirts featuring the No. 50 with a yellow circle around it.

Linebacker James Harrison stretched on the field with his shirt off,Authentic Eli Rogers Jersey, which was Shazier's famous pregame routine.

Shazier is still in a University of Pittsburgh Medical Center hospital after undergoing spinal stabilization surgery Wednesday. Shazier was carted off the field after a collision with receiver Josh Malone in the first quarter of Monday night's 23-20 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.

Shazier, has remained upbeat throughout the week, who is expected to stay at the hospital for an undisclosed period, several Steelers have said.

Fifteen Steelers players wore customized Shazier cleats. Those players were Vince Williams,Authentic Stephon Tuitt Jersey, Sean Davis, Tyson Alualu, William Gay, Cam Heyward, Mike Hilton,Authentic Chris Boswell Jersey, T.J. Watt, Javon Hargrave, Arthur Moats, Anthony Chickillo and Antonio Brown. Alualu posted on Instagram a photo of his cleats accompanied by a customized No. 50 Terrible Towel.,Womens Chris Boswell Jersey, Stephon Tuitt, Bud Dupree, Robert Golden, Roosevelt Nix

Fans added to the tribute with signs reading, "We Love You Ryan" and "Win one for Ryan!" and more.

The Pittsburgh Steelers and New England Patriots are steamrolling towards a Week 15 showdown that could ultimately determine who holds home-field advantage during the postseason.

before they get there,Womens Jordan Berry Jersey,However, both teams face division rivals with an opportunity to secure postseason berths on the line. And a letdown could torpedo a showdown that could be a prelude to another AFC Championship matchup before it even begins.

in theory,The Steelers have the Baltimore Ravens this weekend with a chance to wrap up the AFC North in addition to clinching their postseason berth. So, they should be focused on the task at hand against their biggest rivals within their division.

both the Week 15 affair and a potential AFC title rematch,But Steelers coach Mike Tomlin has been talking about the Patriots,Womens Mike Mitchell Jersey, for awhile now and it’s leaving them wide open for criticism from the media if they do happen to lose to Baltimore. Especially considering their history of playing down to opponents this season.

the Patriots also have a chance to wrap up their division with a win over the Dolphins in addition to locking down a spot in the playoffs. However,Meanwhile, the 5-7 Dolphins may seem like such a formality that they’re at risk of taking things for granted.

but the Patriots have had a couple late-season slip-ups in Miami in the last four seasons. In 2013,That’s not traditionally typical of a Bill Belichick team, that cost them home-field advantage to the Denver Broncos and they’d go on to lose in Denver (having already beaten them at home earlier in the year) in the AFC Championship.

We all assume that the two premier franchises in the AFC are going to take care of business and set up a titanic battle between possibly the two best teams in the NFL. However, if either slips it could take some of the juice out of one of the biggest regular-season matchups in years.

and the second time one has been suspended for his actions. With the sobering news of Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier’s post-injury spinal surgery coming out Thursday,Monday was the third time multiple players have been disciplined by the NFL, it also made Monday the fourth time a player suffered a season-ending injury in that span. Two others during that time have been sidelines with injury for the rest of the game.

And none of this included the consequences of a massive pre-game brawl instigated during warmups at their December 2015 game at Heinz Field — because no league punishments were handed out for it. Otherwise, are staggering, the numbers for the two teams’ face-offs (according to, almost literally.

In the seven games, the Steelers’ Joey Porter and Mike Munchak,000, the league handed out $296,566.50 in fines for 14 separate incidents involving 12 players (with the Bengals’ Vontaze Burfict and George Iloka fined twice each), both in the notorious divisional playoff game in January 2016. Munchak was dinged for yanking on a player’s hair at the end of a play on the sidelines. Porter got his for being on the field and provoking a clash with Adam Jones, plus two assistant coaches,225., on the pivotal back-to-back personal fouls on Jones that led to the Steelers’ winning score. That playoff game resulted in initial fines of nearly $84, reduced on appeals to $67

Players have been suspended twice: Burfict, and the Steelers’ JuJu Smith-Schuster for his hit Monday night on, coincidentally (or not), three games the following season for his hit on Antonio Brown in the playoff game, Burfict. Burfict’s complete toll has been $81,608 in fines and the suspension; his most recent deed in this series was his kick at Roosevelt Nix back in October.

Some infractions were less dangerous than others,576 for punting the ball into the stands after a touchdown catch. William Gay and Brandon Boykin were fined $8, in that same game, and can be traced more to the rules in play at the time, but also to the emotions of the rivalry and the situations. In the same game preceded by the warmups tussle,681 each for "excessive celebration" after Gay’s pick-six, A.J. Green was fined $11,454 for at least three egregious hits., for a relatively innocuous end-zone dance. On the other hand, Burfict was docked $69

Burfict also was accused of intentionally injuring Le’Veon Bell on the play in which Bell tore up his knee in 2015,Womens Eli Rogers Jersey, and of celebrating with other Bengals while he lay in pain. That incident drew no fines.

Bell, Shazier, Burfict, Brown,Womens Stephon Tuitt Jersey, Andy Dalton and Geo Bernard have all been seriously injured in those games. Ironically,Authentic Jordan Berry Jersey, one of the most-controversial un-penalized plays of the postseason game was Shazier’s helmet-to-helmet hit on Bernard.

By comparison, hurt feelings and harsh words. Since 2015, the two bitterly-feuding teams have generated … one NFL fine. In their meeting in Baltimore in October, the Steelers and Ravens — who meet in Pittsburgh on Sunday night,Authentic Alejandro Villanueva Jersey, with playoff implications for both — easily have as intense a rivalry, that same time span, with loads of hard hits,231 for a hit to Roethlisberger’s head., over five games,Womens Alejandro Villanueva Jersey, Za’Darius Smith was docked $18

It wasn’t so much a conscious decision Vince Williams made to wear teammate Ryan Shazier’s jersey during Steelers practice this week. And there wasn’t anyone who compelled him to do it, either.

For Williams, donning the No. 50 of his close friend while he’s in the hospital with a spinal injury just felt … right.

” said the veteran inside linebacker who started all 12 this season next to Shazier in the middle of the Steelers’ defense. “I didn’t really make a big deal out of it. … Nobody even commented on it. I just saw (Shazier’s practice piney) over there,“I didn’t really think nothing of it,Authentic Mike Mitchell Jersey, and I put it on.

so I just felt like (the defense) had been seeing `50′ in front of the huddle for so long,“I knew I was going to be calling the signals, it would just be familiar to everybody.”

Williams has taken over the defensive playcalling duties for the Steelers this week in Shazier’s stead, but the past five days have felt anything but familiar to players who had to watch Shazier be carted off the field and ambulanced to a Cincinnati hospital early during Monday night’s win against the Bengals.

during a short week of preparation for playing another division rival in Baltimore,Now, Steelers players have thoughts of Shazier weighing on them. Shazier underwent spinal stabilization surgery Wednesday and remains in a Pittsburgh hospital recovering.

Arguably, no player has had a more difficult week to adjust to than Williams. First and foremost is compartmentalizing thoughts and well-wishes for Shazier, when combining the personal and professional aspects of the situation, his teammate and friend for four years.

you’ve just got to focus on the mission at hand,“Honestly,” Williams said. “It’s a division game; it’s a chance for us to close out the division. So we’ve got to go out and do our jobs, as hard as it is, really.”

Football-wise, Williams has spent his week getting re-acclimated to calling out the signals for a full game, as well as get a new partner at inside linebacker up and running with the position’s responsibilities: the left inside linebacker spot will be manned by a combination of Arthur Moats (an outside linebacker in four seasons with Pittsburgh) and Sean Spence (signed as a free agent Tuesday).

“(Williams) has been with this defense for (five) years,” Moats said. “He’s made the calls before, an extremely smart football junkie, whether it was the preseason or during the season as well. So it’s not going to be unfamiliar for him. He’s a guy who’s very cerebral, so he knows everything and knows what to look for pre-snap. I feel like he’s going to flourish.”

The fourth-longest continuously tenured player on the Steelers defense, Williams concedes that “it’s going to be hard” to focus on football. But he also recognizes the irony that while Shazier’s injury makes him realize football isn’t the most important thing, it also has made him appreciate it all the more.

“Everybody knows how much this game means to Ryan,” Williams said. “I can’t really say we are going to play for him, but there’s definitely a little added incentive because we understand that you can’t take this for granted. It’s a blessing to be able to play this game. And it’s a very violent game; at any moment you could suffer an injury.

“So you can’t take any game for granted, you can’t take any play for granted. You’ve just got to play as hard as you can while you have the ability to be able to.”

Dak Prescott threw three touchdown passes and the desperate Dallas Cowboys beat New York 30-10 Sunday to spoil Steve Spagnuolo’s debut as interim coach and the return of quarterback Eli Manning to the Giants’ starting lineup.

Prescott threw a go-ahead 20-yard score to tight end Jason Witten with 7:38 to play to break a 10-all tie.

Rod Smith scored on an 81-yard pass play with 4:08 to play and he added a 15-yard scoring run a little more than a minute later after an interception by linebacker Sean Lee.

Prescott, who was 20 of 30 for 332 yards also threw a 50-yard scoring pass to Dez Bryant as the Cowboys (7-6) stayed in the playoff hunt with three games left in the regular season. Dan Bailey added a 21-yard field goal as the Cowboys finished with 454 yards.

Manning, who got a standing ovation taking the field, threw a 1-yard TD pass to Rhett Ellison late in the second quarter that gave New York a brief 10-3 lead. Aldrick Rosas had a 39-yard field goal. Manning finished 31 of 46 for 228 yards with a touchdown and two late interceptions.
Steelers get customized cleats to honor Ryan Shazier
The Steelers will play in their first game against the Ravens on Sunday since Ryan Shazier's horrific injury happened on Monday, and his teammates are planning to honor him in a special way.

Antonio Brown shared a video on Snapchat of customized yellow cleats that have Shazier's face on them. The cleats also have the No. 50, #shalieve and a picture of a lion, which represents a motivational symbol that Shazier has been known to use on social media.

Shazier's teammates have found a way to remember him on the field as he continues to recover from an injury suffered Monday against the Bengals while making a tackle. He underwent spinal stabilization surgery on Wednesday.

The team has not provided details of the surgery or the prognosis, but his doctor,Authentic Eli Rogers Jersey, told the San Diego Union-Tribune that "without a doubt he is done for the season, David Caho," adding the surgery, "does not rule Shazier out from football in the future."

Shazier was injured while making a tackle in the Steelers-Bengals game on Monday night,Womens Eli Rogers Jersey, and had to be carted off the field. He was treated at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center before returning to Pittsburgh on Wednesday.

He underwent "spinal stabilization surgery" Wednesday night, the team said Thursday.

Dynamic lumbar spine stabilization is "a surgical technique that stabilizes the spine with flexible materials to allow for more mobility in the spine than traditional spinal fusion surgery," according to the UPMC website.

The procedure uses "rods made of flexible materials to stabilize the affected level of the spine, but it does not completely eliminate movement. This technique also reduces the load on the spine's joints and discs,Authentic Chris Boswell Jersey," . "The flexible portion of the rod limits motion between the vertebrae, which may reduce pain and improve the recovery time after your surgical procedure."

Pittsburgh Steelers left tackle Alejandro Villanueva has one of the most interesting stories in the NFL.

Villanueva graduated from West Point, he served three tours of duty in Afghanistan. He is a decorated Army Ranger, and while there he walked onto the Army football team. Before beginning his career with the Eagles in 2014,Authentic Alejandro Villanueva Jersey, winning a National Service Medal and a bronze star.

However, he revealed that a big reason why he served the final two tours in Afghanistan was due to the struggles he had once he returned home.

“Now I started developing a fear of flying. I started developing even a fear of bacon because it can give you cancer, I’m a healthy 20-year-old now back in normal society,” Villanueva said to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Ed Bouchette. “So you start developing all these things because you’re like ‘Holy smokes,Authentic Jordan Berry Jersey, I have a life expectancy. I don’t have to die tomorrow.’ It’s a very tough thing to reconcile in your mind. It causes a lot of stress. I think that’s one of the main reason for PTSD is that I was ready to die and now I don’t have to die.

“It gave me a lot of anxiety. I’ve never talked about this with the media, but it did give me a lot of anxiety when I got back. I think that’s one of the reasons I had to go back to Afghanistan, I was fighting to get back to Afghanistan because obviously I just didn’t feel comfortable.”

During this past offseason he signed a new four-year contract with the Steelers to continue as their starting left tackle, he was once like some others who have served this country,Authentic Mike Mitchell Jersey, and has a good chance at becoming a Super Bowl champion. However, dealing with the struggles of adjusting to civilian life after combat.

When thinking of ways to pay tribute to the military, helping with that struggle is a good place to start.

Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker James Harrison has an interesting idea on how to bring some change to the NFL Commissioner’s Office.

Current NFL commissioner Roger Goodell was a recently given a contract extension, and was asked what changes he would like to see. His response was that he wants Goodell’s job. If he is truly campaigning for the job in the future his plans for the job are interesting, which raised his annual salary to around $40 million. Harrison is coming to the end of his career, in a mysterious kind of way.

Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier remains at a University of Pittsburgh Medical Center on Sunday as he recovers from spinal stabilization surgery and the latest news is relatively positive.

The Steelers and Shazier’s camp remains tight-lipped about his condition in general since he unexpectedly underwent surgery on Thursday, so it’s hard to gauge exactly what “gradual improvement” actually means.

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown got absolutely blasted on the game-tying touchdown reception against the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday night by notorious headhunter George Iloka.

The Bengals safety has earned a reputation as one of the hardest-hitting defensive backs in football in an era where coming in hard and high can be costly. And Iloka’s hit on Brown nearly cost him a game check before his one-game suspension was reduced to a $35,464 fine.

Yet, despite the clear risk that Iloka’s aggression poses to him, Brown expects nothing less than to have defenders out there trying to take his head off. It even raises the level of his own play.

Without mentioning Iloka by name, Brown tweeted on Friday about the physicality of the game and defended his opponents.

“Football is a war game you think these guys tackling me nice?” Brown tweeted. “They trying to kill me and that’s what makes the game! We brought up on the bull in the ring it’s (a part) of the game.”

Brown’s teammate, JuJu Smith-Schuster was also suspended for an illegal block on Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict earlier in the game and subsequently taunting Burfict by standing over him and posing after the hit. However, Smith-Schuster’s appeal was denied and he’ll miss Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens.

Shazier has been hospitalized at UPMC in Pitsburgh since suffering a spinal injury in the Steelers' 23-20 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday. According to ESPN, doctors are "controlling and limiting his movement as they wait for the swelling and bruising in his back to subside."

Shazier underwent spinal stabilization surgery on Wednesday. He stayed at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center on Monday and Tuesday.

The Steelers last updated Shazier's condition on Thursday when they announced his spinal surgery. He has been visited by Steelers owner Art Rooney and several teammates.

also reported that Shazier's season is over and "the team says it is concerned solely about his short- and long-term health."

Some Steelers players will have Ryan Shazier on their hearts and their feet today.

Star receiver Antonio Brown is one of 15 Pittsburgh players who intend to wear Shazier-inspired cleats during warmups before tonight’s game against the Ravens, ESPN reported.

The others include Vince Williams, Sean Davis, Javon Hargrave, Stephon Tuitt, Cam Heyward, Arthur Moats, Mike Hilton, T.J. Watt, Tyson Alualu, William Gay, and Anthony Chickillo., Bud Dupree, Robert Golden, Roosevelt Nix

The slick yellow cleats feature Shazier’s face, his No. 50 and a picture of a lion, which the linebacker has used on social media as a motivational symbol.

Shazier had spinal stabilization surgery Wednesday,Authentic Stephon Tuitt Jersey, two days after being injured against the Bengals. The Steelers have not updated his status since Thursday.

Cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones went on injured reserve with a season-ending groin injury.

Right tackle Shon Coleman was fined $30,387 by the league for pushing an official to the ground during a play last Sunday.

An argument with a coach contributed to cornerback Marcus Peters’ suspension, who was suspended for one game after he got a personal foul penalty and left the field last Sunday, NFL Network reported. Peters,Womens Stephon Tuitt Jersey, had a verbal altercation with the coach on the team bus to the airport afterward. It isn’t known which coach he argued with.

The team will be without defensive lineman David Irving (concussion), cornerback Orlando Scandrick (back) and linebacker Justin Durant (concussion, illness) when it visits the Giants today.

Quarterback Tom Brady apologized for lashing out at offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels on the sideline last Sunday, and they are responsible for putting us in a great position to succeed. I just want to get that off my chest,Womens Chris Boswell Jersey, saying it had been bothering him all week. "I know our coaches work really hard," Brady said.

The Steelers have clinched their fourth-straight double-digit win season, and GM Kevin Colbert's work in the draft has been a major part of Pittsburgh's recent sustained success.

Some of the team's first-round selections like David DeCastro, Cameron Heyward,Womens Alejandro Villanueva Jersey, of course, Ben Roethlisberger have flourished in the Steel City. But Colbert has routinely landed impactful players outside the first 32 picks, Ryan Shazier and, which is vital,Womens Jordan Berry Jersey, and oftentimes separates the good teams from the great ones.

Here are outside-the-first-round gems Pittsburgh's found in the past six drafts:

Those seven players -- counting Brown -- are either franchise foundations or key role players who play a high percentage of snaps for the 10-2 Steelers.

And while Pittsburgh hasn't sat out free agency every March, it's shrewdly utilized that period to fill tiny roster roles. And key pickups aren't limited to the spring; the addition of Joe Haden at cornerback and Vance McDonald at tight end just before the 2017 season are prime examples of finding value whenever it presents itself.

Even the recent first-round selections who don't appear to be bound for superstardom, like Bud Dupree and Artie Burns, have found niches in the Steelers defense. Really,Womens Mike Mitchell Jersey, the only Round 1 selection made by Colbert and Co. who's been a sure-fire bust is Jarvis Jones, and his NFL career has been marred by injury.

The jury is clearly still out on T.J. Watt, and while he's experienced some rookie moments in 2017, he's currently third on the team with five sacks and has already batted down six passes.

Going a step further with what may be most important -- Colbert has done a masterful job insulating himself from potential busts by doubling down at specific positions.

In the 2010 draft, he snagged Emmanuel Sanders and Brown. In 2011, Heyward was Pittsburgh's first-rounder. Gilbert was drafted in Round 2. In 2012, Mike Adams was chosen out of Ohio State in the second round. Kelvin Beachum was picked in Round 7 that year. Jones was grabbed to rush the passer in 2013. The following year, after picking defensive end Jason Worilds, Tuitt was a Round 2 selection along the defensive line. Two rounds later, Bryant was the Steelers' Round 4 pick despite Pittsburgh's loaded receiver group at the time.

Then, in two of the last three seasons, Colbert has drafted an edge-rusher in the first round. These picks were made as Jones was showing signs of becoming a bust.

Unquestionably, some of those picks haven't panned out, but the Steelers have had in-house replacements ready when they team has decided to move on from a first- or second-round selection. The much riskier alternative is relying on a rookie to fill the shoes of a failed draft selection.

Not having a need at quarterback for all those years has undoubtedly helped Pittsburgh in the draft, but its front office has smartly stayed ahead of possible busts, and players bolting in free agency by continually using draft capital on key positions like offensive line, injuries, defensive line, and wide receiver.

Beyond the Patriots, consistently successful team in the AFC over the past decade, the Steelers have been the most stable, and much of their success over the past five seasons can be directly tied to a smart approach in the NFL Draft.
Carson Wentz's toughness shines most 'when things break down'

Seahawks defensive end Frank Clark jumped across the line early, left his feet and speared Wentz, who popped up but showed signs of pain on his walk back to the huddle.

including one on the tail end of a slide that drew an unnecessary roughness penalty on safety Bradley McDougald. ,Wentz was officially hit Sunday 12 times by the Seahawks and took even more shots than that

On Monday, Eagles head coach Doug Pederson said he talked to Wentz on the plane ride to Southern California and delivered the news to reporters that Wentz was "fine." Wentz certainly didn't look fine during the game, but Pederson said he didn't see his quarterback wincing. He said to ask offensive coordinator Frank Reich.

Reich did see the quarterback's facial expression and asked him about his health on the sideline during the game. There just isn't time for small talk. Reich said the conversation basically went like this:

Reich keeps a keen eye on the quarterback from the sideline and quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo watches Wentz above from the coaching booth.,Not much time for anything else. But during games

Reich has been impressed by Wentz's toughness.

"But sometimes as a player," Reich said. "I mean, you thrive in that, and I think Carson falls into this realm, you thrive in that. It doesn't feel good, but you're in the game. This is what football is. It's a physical sport, and just because he plays quarterback, that doesn't mean he's not a part of that. We all know that he's a little bit wired like that, but I still think he's done an excellent job of taking care of himself. I don't think he's taken a bunch of unnecessary hits, except for the illegal ones."

There's a fine line to walk in all of this. Wentz is a big 6-foot-5, 240-pound guy who can take a few hits, but protecting him is obviously the most important thing for the franchise.

he does have wheels and is pretty elusive for somebody his size. His legs and big body have made him a threat on the ground this season,Then again, especially in QB sneak situations. Through 12 games, Wentz has 26 first downs on the ground. That's the same number as LeGarrette Blount. And the only quarterback with more is Cam Newton.

he's picked up nine first downs on the ground.,Over the last two weeks

"Nine in two weeks is a ton," Reich said. "So that's just a credit to him being able to improvise and his physicality and athletic ability. When things break down, he just has that knack."

This balancing act is far from over. At least Wentz has shown he's tough enough to absorb some of these hits.

The Eagles' intent wasn't to use this week in the Los Angeles area as a cure for two bad weeks of practice.

The team had planned months ago to stay on the West Coast for their game against the Los Angeles Rams this Sunday after playing in Seattle this past Sunday night. It just made more sense than flying back to Philadelphia, practicing for a few days while getting re-acclimated to the time change, then flying back to the West Coast.

But the week away from home is now seen as a chance to refocus the team after head coach Doug Pederson said the Eagles haven't been practicing well the past few weeks. He said that contributed to their 24-10 loss to the Seahawks on Sunday.

" Pederson said. "[But] obviously you've got to keep them dialed in because the week is different ... Things aren't quite as simple,"We try to keep the week as normal as possible for the guys and for the coaches, let's say, as if we're back in Philadelphia. And then the part of the game, we're facing a playoff-caliber football team this Sunday.

"I've got to bring everybody kind of full circle back to that and focus on that during the week."

this week serves as a glorified training camp,In that sense, where the players and coaches are together for the entire time in the team hotel. The only real sightseeing they'll do is the 20-minute ride from their hotel to the practice field at Angels Stadium in Anaheim, home of the major league baseball team, beginning Wednesday.

for example,There was a little bit of time for sightseeing. On Monday, defensive end Brandon Graham, whose wife and 2-year daughter are with him, went to the Museum of Ice Cream in Los Angeles.

"We just took that day to rest and kind of get our mind to refocus," Graham said. "[Tuesday], we had to lift and walkthrough [the game plan] and now we’re getting ready for the Rams."

too. And there was time late Tuesday afternoon up until curfew Tuesday night to do some sightseeing. After that,A few other players brought their families, it's all business, but in a different type of environment.

"It's cool. It's not bad. It's really the time change," Graham said. "You just get used to it as you stay out here. Right now, I don't think I'm used to it."

That'll change quickly. That's because Pederson said he noticed issues in practice the previous week against the Bears, and the Eagles still crushed them 31-3 despite losing three fumbles. The Seahawks, at 8-4, took advantage of the Eagles' mistakes — a fumble by quarterback Carson Wentz, too. The difference is the Bears are a bad team, costly penalties, missed assignments.

behind second-year quarterback Jared Goff and running back Todd Gurley,The Rams (9-3), have the ability to take advantage, too.

"I feel strongly about you win games during the week,Authentic Jameis Winston Jersey, and as a coach, you're always maybe a little more nervous than you should be by the way we practice," Pederson said. "I just think that probably, and sometimes things come up, [before the last few weeks], you didn't see the penalties. You didn't see the turnovers. You didn't see some of the negative things that have been going on.

that's a direct correlation to how we practice during the week. So that's what I mean by that. And we've got to get that erased this week.","And to me

and he said the setting is perfect for team bonding.,Authentic Doug Martin Jersey,Pederson is hoping that being together all week will help

rehab,"We have a great set up here in the hotel," Pederson said. "Coaches have offices and workspace to get the work done. Players have got everything they need right here from treatment,Womens Demaryius Thomas Jersey, medical facilities, doctors, all of that.

there was an advance team that put all this together for us. They have done a great job and we’re just looking forward to the week.","When we set this trip

Added defensive end Chris Long: "We’ll definitely enjoy being on the road together,Authentic T.J. Ward Jersey, I know that. It’s a group that enjoys each other’s company, and we're playing a couple of good football teams."

The potential payoff is that the Eagles will clinch the NFC East with a win or a Dallas Cowboys loss. The Cowboys play at the Giants, who are 2-10, but have a new head coach in defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo after Ben McAdoo was fired Monday.

The Eagles are also playing for the top seed in the NFC heading into the playoffs, which would guarantee the home field until the Super Bowl. The Eagles (10-2) are tied with the Minnesota Vikings for the best record in the NFC, but the Vikings have the tiebreaker advantage.

A loss to the Rams would knock the Eagles into third place in the NFC. That would mean a first-round home game rather than a bye.

and that they'll have the chance to focus on that being away from home.,So there's a lot at stake. But center Jason Kelce said the mistakes he has seen the past few weeks are correctable

" Kelce said. "I think it’s encouraging that as long as we get that fixed,"It’s definitely better when it’s a self-inflicted thing that you can correct,Womens Nick Folk Jersey, we can beat a team like [the Seahawks and Rams], and we should beat a team like that."

Wilson is probably the hardest quarterback to sack in the NFL.,While the Jaguars have a vaunted playmaking defense with plenty of talent up front

making opposing defenses crumble in coverage.,He can extend plays

"He definitely can extend plays," Jaguars linebacker Myles Jack said., I think that's the biggest thing

"The play is never over with him unless the whistle gets blown. I [saw] one play, they were just playing Sunday night, he was scrambling and threw a lateral. He's definitely going to be a challenge himself and he's tough, it can get crazy.", you've just got to contain him and make him pass the ball because if not and he's running around

Wilson's ability to extend plays has an immediate impact on both the running and passing attacks. Cornerback A.J. Bouye compares Wilson's combination of mobility and passing prowess to that of former two-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers.

especially in coverage.,Bouye said it's a test in fundamentals with Wilson. The veteran cornerback said he and his teammates will need to be disciplined against the veteran quarterback

" Bouye said.,"You have to focus on you

he extends the plays and throws downfield. He's having an MVP season - no debate - and he showed that this past [Sunday night] against the Eagles. We're just going to have to stay on top of everything." ,"Just like we need to focus on our technique and focus on what he does [well] and eliminate that. Similar to Aaron Rodgers

Veteran defensive end Calais Campbell is very familiar with Wilson from his days in the NFC West. He knows the challenge that comes with pass rushing the Seattle quarterback.

"You definitely want to keep him in the pocket, you want to pressure him and you want to make him uncomfortable back there," Campbell said. "He's a talented player, you've got to just play ball and try what you need to do to win.", so at the end of the day

Defensive tackle Malik Jackson has added incentive when it comes to beating the Seahawks. Jackson was part of the Denver Broncos team that was blown out by the Seahawks, in 2014., 43-8

He will have an opportunity to get some revenge against Wilson and the Seattle squad Sunday.

"I'm going in there with that chip on my shoulder," Jackson said., thinking about that Super Bowl

Leave it to the Seahawks to save their best football for prime time. They improved to 22-4-1 in such games since Carroll took over in 2010, and it was the Seahawks’ second straight defeat at home., the best record in the NFL during that span. One of those four losses came two weeks ago on a Monday night against the Atlanta Falcons

they turned in their most impressive performance of the year.,Just when it seemed as if the Seahawks had lost their magic touch at CenturyLink Field and that their season might end without a playoff berth for the first time since 2011

Wilson covers the Seahawks’ specific blemishes. He avoids pass rushers who crash through or around outmatched linemen. He creates time for receivers to break free. He helps Seattle’s running game just with his presence, but the Seahawks are built around his strengths erasing their weaknesses., forcing a defender to be responsible for him in the read-option. He would be great on any team

Richard Sherman and Cliff Avril to season-ending injuries. The Seahawks’ defense still has plenty of firepower,Wilson has held the Seahawks together even as their vaunted defense has suffered the losses of Kam Chancellor, particularly defensive player of the year candidate Bobby Wagner, according to Pro Football Focus., who has been the best linebacker in the NFL this season, by a wide margin

The Philadelphia Eagles’s nine-game winning streak came to an end last night thanks to a 24-10 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on the road.

The loss drops Philly to 10-2, which is still one of the best records in the league. But, with a team like the Minnesota Vikings also sitting at 10-2, Philly is going to have to get back on the winning track if they want a shot at securing home-field advantage in the NFC., and boasting one of the NFL’s stingiest defenses

But the loss last night to the Seahawks didn’t just end Philly’s winning streak. It also ended a number of other big streaks for the team.

Jim Schwartz's unit didn't do either well in Sunday's 24-10 loss to the Seahawks.

"We have to get back to playing our style of football, "because the Rams can hang 40 and 50 on people."," Schwartz said from the team's hotel in Southern California on Tuesday afternoon

After Sunday's loss, the Eagles flew south and will spend the week at a hotel in Costa Mesa, while practicing at Angel Stadium in Anaheim. On Tuesday, the Eagles' defense used an empty ballroom in the team hotel after working out in an open air weight room., while the offense went to the stadium for its walkthrough

but Schwartz's unit needs to get back to what made it dominant before. ,It's in a completely foreign environment

" defensive end Brandon Graham said. "We understand what we are as a team. And I know that we have a big challenge this week. And I know that we're gonna do what we gotta do to bounce back this week.","We understand what happened that game

head coach Doug Pederson didn't deny what a few of his players said after the loss to the Seahawks: that the team didn't have a great week of practice beforehand. That possibly led to some mental mistakes; the Eagles felt like they helped the Seahawks out way too much. ,On Monday

but the Eagles did make similar mistakes that eventually hurt them against the Seahawks. ,Schwartz said he was overly worried about the week heading into the Chicago game. Maybe his fears there were somewhat unfounded

Perhaps the Eagles' defense had been a little too loose.

"Every team has a little different personality, Womens Doug Martin Jersey,it's more of a grind. I think our guys have the ability to play with and have some fun out on the field. But there is also a fine line between doing that and losing focus. Maybe that's something we can improve on."," Schwartz said. "Some teams play best when they're loose. [For] some teams

Whatever the case was during practice, especially if it's what led to penalties and missed tackles against the Seahawks. , the Eagles need to fix it

four of them gave the Seahawks first downs.,Of the Eagles' seven penalties for 64 yards against Seattle

And the Birds also had eight missed tackles, according to ProFootballFocus. Three of them belonged to Jalen Mills, and not just when he was scrambling around. , normally a very good tackling cornerback. Schwartz also noted they had a few chances to bring down Russell Wilson

" Schwartz said. "That's a couple things that we've been really proud of defensively of being a good tackling team. That didn't show on Sunday night against Seattle.","We missed a couple tackles that we have done a good job of making. We already talked about the penalties

A few weeks ago, Schwartz commended - as much as he does - his defense's ability to avoid costly penalties. The defense had four penalties on Sunday against the Seahawks and all of them gave Seattle first downs. The Eagles were called for three defensive holds - one apiece for Nigel Bradham, Patrick Robinson and Corey Graham - and the pass interference call on Ronald Darby. Maybe it was a ticky-tack call on Darby, the flag probably doesn't get thrown. , but Schwartz said the corner didn't play it as well as he should have. Had he

the Eagles had given up just one first down by penalty in each of their previous five games and had given up just 17 all season coming into Sunday. The only other time they gave up four in one game this season was against Carolina; that was nearly two months ago. ,To put giving up four first downs on penalties into perspective

good things don't happen,"When you give good offenses second chances," Schwartz said. "I think that's probably going to be the same thing,Womens Jameis Winston Jersey, well,Authentic Nick Folk Jersey, it's going to be the same every week, we have to be able to stop them. We can't be extending drives due to penalties.",Womens T.J. Ward Jersey, facing a high-powered offense, but particularly so this week, a team that can score a lot. When we have a chance to stop them

they still gave up just 24 points. They've given up more points than that just once this season. ,The good news for the Eagles is even with all the penalties and the missed tackles and coverage problems

To put those 24 points into perspective,Authentic Bryan Anger Jersey, who have given up 17.9 point per game this season (sixth best in the league). , 12 NFL teams are averaging 24 opponent points or more per game this season. And it constituted as a bad performance for the Eagles

to a man,"I think we, we all recognize we played a poor game, and I'll include myself in that, too," Schwartz said. "And we gave up 24 points. Again,Womens Bryan Anger Jersey, because we don't take any pride in that. But it shows you a little bit about where our guys are, you know what I mean?", please don't misconstrue that, that that's considered a bad performance

Schwartz said they don't have one player on defense that considers that Seattle game one of their best performances. And for a lot of his players it was one of their worst games.

This week, the Eagles are working to keep perspective. They lost one game - sure, but still just one game - on Sunday. They still have a chance to split this West Coast trip and can still accomplish all their goals. They just have to get back to what led them to nine straight wins. , a big one

" Graham said. "That's what we are right now. We can't sit around and pout about it. We have the Rams up next.",Authentic Demaryius Thomas Jersey,"We're a really good 10-2 team

Apparently, the Eagles are now frauds, even with a 10-2 record.

John Sigler, who writes for the Canal Street Chronicles (a SB Nation New Orleans Saints blog),Womens Nick Folk Jersey, bashed the Eagles for their 10-2 record and their loss to the Seahawks (something 43 teams have done in Seattle since 2012, the highest in the NFL).

"To put it another way," Sigler wrote. "So what does this mean? Likely more of the same for the Eagles. They finally drew a team with a backbone in the Seahawks and got ran out of town on a rail., the Eagles have played just two teams all year that currently have a winning record: the Carolina Panthers,Womens Bryan Anger Jersey, and the Seahawks, who they beat narrowly by 28-23, who stepped on Philly’s neck with a 24-10 statement win

"If this Sunday’s upset is any indication,Womens Demaryius Thomas Jersey, they won’t take well to being challenged. The Saints have won in Philadelphia in the playoffs before, and it looks like they can do it again."

this critique is a bit harsh. The Saints were stomped on by the Los Angeles Rams two weeks ago and no one downplayed them. ,Based off one game

The Saints three losses are to teams with a combined record of 29-7 (New England Patriots, Minnesota Vikings, Rams). Common sense indicates they can't match up to teams that play at or above their level. Their biggest wins are to the Panthers, which happen to be in their division.

they are beating the teams they are supposed to beat.,Bottom line: Every team in the NFC has its flaws with their schedule. The Eagles can't help it the NFC East stinks in 2017. Like the Saints

Entering the 2017 season, Case Keenum was comfortably ensconced in the role that people expect of him: backup quarterback. Then, Vikings starter Sam Bradford injured his knee in the team’s Week 1 game against the New Orleans Saints and suddenly, Keenum found himself thrust into the starting lineup for the second time in as many years. That didn’t bode well for the Vikings hopes considering Keenum had posted just a 9-15 record while completing only 58.4 percent of his passes with a 78.4 passer rating.

winners of eight straight games and things couldn’t be better right now in Minnesota.,After a rough first outing in a loss to the Steelers (20/37 167 yards), Keenum has played like an entirely different quarterback than the one we’ve grown accustomed to seeing during his career. He’s posted just two games in which his passer rating has been below that career mark since the Pittsburgh game and in his last four outings, he’s posted a rating of 100 or better while completing more than 70 percent of his passes. Is Keenum a long-term starter? Probably not based on track record. But, he’s fit well within the offensive game plan called by Pat Shurmur. The Vikings are 10-2

No way we can lose – locks of the week: As you can guess, these will be the stone-cold locks of the week. The games I’m so confident about that I’d wager my life’s savings on them, if I had a life’s savings to wager.

Arizona State hires former NFL coach Herm Edwards

The Sun Devils announced the hiring of former NFL coach and ESPN analyst Herm Edwards as football coach Sunday night, ushering in a new, unexpected era for the program.

A news conference to introduce Edwards is scheduled for Monday morning and his hiring is pending approval by the Arizona Board of Regents.

The school said in a release that Edwards will oversee a “New Leadership Model” that’s similar to the NFL approach using a general manager structure.

“Our goal for this football program is to reach unprecedented heights, and therefore we need to find a way to operate more innovatively and efficiently than we have in the past, our vision for this program is to have a head coach who serves as a CEO and is the central leader with a collaborative staff around him that will elevate the performance of players and coaches on the field,” athletic director Ray Anderson said in a statement. “In the spirit of innovation, in the classroom and in our community. Equally important, the head coach will be a dynamic and tireless recruiter.”

The Sun Devils fired coach Todd Graham after six seasons on Nov. 26 and wanted to move quickly with the early-signing period for high school recruits starting Dec. 20.

Arizona State did make a quick,Womens Breno Giacomini Jersey, albeit surprising move by hiring the 63-year-old Edwards, who hasn’t coached since 2008 after being fired by the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs.

Edwards spent the last nine years as an NFL analyst for ESPN and has not coached in college since serving as a San Jose State assistant in 1989. He’s also served as a coach for the Under Armour All-American game for the past eight years, working with some of the nation’s top high school recruit.

Anderson, a former NFL executive and agent who previously represented Edwards,Womens C. J. Fiedorowicz Jersey, has made some innovative moves since being hired as Arizona State’s AD in 2014. Bringing in Edwards to run the football program has created a stir nationally and within the Sun Devils’ fan base.

“My personal commitment to build young men to be whole people through the game of football is completely in alignment with the vision President Michael Crow and Vice President for University Athletics Ray Anderson have for this program,” Edwards said in a statement. “I stand ready for the challenge of working with them to elevate Sun Devil Football. I am very excited and humbled to be the Arizona State head football coach.”

The “New Leadership Model” will include sport and administrative divisions to manage the football program, the two sides sharing resources and planning to further the program.

The Raiders already knew they'd be without one of their top pass-catchers this week with Michael Crabtree suspended. Now they know their other starter will be on the shelf as well.

Wide receiver Amari Cooper was ruled out for Sunday's game against the Giants as he recovers from both a concussion and an ankle injury sustained last week. With both receivers out,Womens Kareem Jackson Jersey, Oakland will likely start Seth Roberts and Cordarrelle Patterson at the position, though the latter has also been limited by a hip injury and is questionable to play. The Raiders are of course facing a Giants team that has dealt with their own injury issues at wide receiver this year and that will be starting Geno Smith at quarterback.

Antonio Brown has proven nearly unstoppable over his career, and his absence would obviously leave a massive hole in the offense. It's not all bad news for the Steelers though, but a midweek toe injury could keep him out of the lineup for Monday's matchup with the Bengals. Brown was listed as questionable on Saturday's final injury report after missing the last two days of practice,Womens Shane Lechler Jersey, as rookie JuJu Smith-Schuster is good to go after missing last week's game with a hamstring issue.

The Falcons won't have cornerback Desmond Trufant available as he recovers from a concussion, it's still a big loss if you don't have a player graded in the top 10 at his position, and while the secondary managed to play better last year without him during their Super Bowl run, per Pro Football Focus. That loss is exacerbated by the Falcons' matchup against a team with two excellent receivers in Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs. The pressure will be on Robert Alford and Brian Poole to step up.

The Bills have a ton of injuries to deal with on offense -- 10 in all -- and four players have been ruled out. That includes top receiver Kelvin Benjamin as he deals with a knee injury. Jordan Matthews would figure to be the de facto No. 1 option in the passing game, as are the team's top two tight ends. Tyrod Taylor and LeSean McCoy have their work cut out for them keeping up with the Patriots' attack, but he's questionable to play as well, especially if any of those questionable players can't go.

The Jaguars are losing one of their top defensive players this week with Telvin Smith on the sidelines. That could mean more playing time for Paul Posluszny, however, unless the team is ready to lean on rookie Blair Brown. The Jaguars could have a pair of starters back on their offensive line, with Jermey Parnell and Patrick Omameh listed as questionable. Both have missed multiple games to date.

Injuries must be accounted for when making Fantasy and picks pool/gambling decisions, and we've taken care of a lot of the legwork for you by collecting all the final injury reports in one place. Below you'll see the game status of every player on each team's injury report if they're ruled questionable or worse a few minutes after they're in. We'll also give quick thoughts on how those designations affect your decisions for Week 13.

Before we get to the injuries, here are some Week 13 Fantasy resources to give you even more help with setting your lineups:

With Ben McAdoo out, who's the Giants' next head coach?

The perennial hot candidate from New England, he's an inventive offensive coordinator who has a great bond with Giants fave and coaching legend Bill Belichick, not to mention the respect of Tom Brady.

He's resisted overtures to leave the Patriots, but this would be his second shot at head coach after things did not go well in his first go-around with the Denver Broncos. Maybe McDaniels would jump at the chance to join a franchise that Belichick remains fond of with the opportunity to hand pick his next quarterback with the Giants currently in the top 3 of the 2018 NFL Draft.

Also won't hurt if, the Giants make a move at general manager and lure the likes of former Patriots front man Scott Pioli. Pioli is the son-in-law of Hall of Famer and Oradell native Bill Parcells, say, and he used to drive to Giants training camp in the mid-1980s as a student at Central Connecticut State. A McDaniels-Pioli pairing could make some sense.

Every NFL team's worst-ever football moment, remembered

It's a game — on the grand scheme of things, a fleeting affair — this sport called football. But throughout NFL history,Authentic Kareem Jackson Jersey, and we're not just alluding to the Giants and Eli Manning. Here, moves on the football field and in the front office have left fans reeling, at Sporting News, we decided to look at the worst of those moments.

We removed off-field controversies and off-field decisions. There are no buses to and from Baltimore, no court cases, but because owner malfeasance, no deaths. Not because they don't matter, domestic violence, murder charges and untimely disease should not share a space with missed field goals and fumbles. Pain is a spectrum.

So we present each team's worst moment on the lesser side of that divide; the gameplay and roster doctoring that belong in a hall of fame of follies.

Steve Young might have been 38 years old and waning in 1999, but he wasn't done. He had just led the league in touchdowns the previous season, and had led the league in completion percentage for five of the previous seven campaigns. He had more left to give.

Until a final hit forced him to remember he also had a life to live.

Young's last play still resonates, which tackles the concussion cover-up controversy surrounding the NFL. Up 17-0 against the Cardinals,Authentic Breno Giacomini Jersey, especially with its depiction in the Frontline documentary League of Denial, Young got a pass away before the hit. He'd never throw another one in the NFL.

In terms of talent, Gale Sayers was an all-time great with all-time grace. In his first five seasons,Authentic C. J. Fiedorowicz Jersey,866 yards (at 5.1 yards per carry) and gained 1, he ran for 4,313 more receiving. In total,Authentic Ryan Griffin Jersey, he scored 50 touchdowns in that span as a runner and elite returner — and man did he do it in style.

But two devastating knee injuries derailed Sayers' career in a time of poorer medical practice. Sayers was leading the league in rushing in 1968 when he tore ligaments in his right knee against the 49ers. Already a step slower by 1970, Sayers represents the starkest case of what could've been, Authentic Shane Lechler Jersey,Sayers suffered a second knee injury — this time to the left side. The youngest Hall of Fame inductee in football history, still holding the rookie record for touchdowns with 22.

In 1989,Authentic Marcus Peters Jersey, the Bengals faced the 49ers in Super Bowl XXIII — in what would be Bill Walsh's final game as San Francisco's coach. And Cincinnati lost 20-16, and it lost the hard way.

First, leading 16-13 with fewer than four minutes to go, the Bengals had to bear witness to teammate and nose tackle Tim Krumrie's broken leg — a graphic replay the telecast mercilessly put on repeat. Then,Womens Ryan Griffin Jersey, the Bengals allowed an inexplicable drive from Joe Montana and the 49ers.

Starting at their own 8 yard line, the drive culminating in a game-winning, Montana and company marched down the field, 10-yard touchdown pass to John Taylor with just 34 seconds left to play. The Bengals couldn't recover. They still haven't recovered.

The Bills deserve immense credit for making four straight Super Bowls — a Herculean task. But it's the dubious distinction of four straight Super Bowl losses that everyone remembers,Womens Marcus Peters Jersey, 1991, and no play symbolized that run of almosts more than Scott Norwood's missed field goal in Super Bowl XXV on Jan. 27, the first of the four appearances.

Down 20-19 with eight seconds to go, the Bills left Norwood with a game-winning, 47-yard field goal attempt. He missed. And Al Michaels' famous "No good ... wide right" call became synonymous with blown opportunities in Buffalo.

For a franchise with seven Super Bowl appearances and two titles, the Broncos have some bad memories. An ill-fated Super Bowl snap against the Seahawks. A shocking playoff loss to a Jaguars team in its second season. And down goes Davis. But the Broncos Super Bowl XXII blunder stands above — or below — these many miscues.

The Broncos entered the game as three-point favorites over Washington. The final score ... turned out differently. They ended the first quarter with a 10-0 lead — then Washington won 42-10 behind a record-breaking performance from quarterback Doug Williams, who threw all four of his touchdowns in the second quarter and left the Broncos embarrassed.

A little more than a minute remained in the 1988 AFC Championship Game between the Broncos and Browns. The Broncos led 38-31. And Browns running back Earnest Byner looked poised to score the game-tying touchdown — until he fumbled. On the cusp of a clutch legacy, Byner made the play that would overshadow a solid career and become quintessential evidence to the "God hates Cleveland" curse.

The 27th team to join the NFL entered its 27th game on Dec. 11, 1977 still winless. Tampa Bay's reputation preceded it to the point that Archie Manning — quarterbacking the oft-awful Saints — said "losing to the Bucs would be a disgrace."

Alas, improving their franchise record to 1-26. But first they had to lose more than two dozen consecutive games, the Saints lost. And the Buccaneers snapped their streak, a stretch of futility unlike anything we've seen since.

The Cardinals' run to Super Bowl XLIII was unexpected, captained by 37-year-old future Sporting News contributor Kurt Warner and first-year coach Ken Whisenhunt. They entered the Super Bowl as 6.5-point underdogs against the Steelers. And when Pittsburgh started the fourth quarter with a 20-7 lead, that number suddenly looked conservative.

But two touchdown passes from Warner to Larry Fitzgerald (and a safety) later, the Cardinals had a 23-20 lead and — if you believe in such things — momentum. Big Ben Roethlsiberger responded by leading an eight-play, 78-yard drive that ended in a now-iconic corner-of-the-endzone touchdown catch by Santonio Holmes with 25 seconds remaining.

The Steelers won the Super Bowl. The Cardinals kept their drought alive; their last championship remains a 1947 pre-merger title as the Chicago Cardinals.

Freezer Bowl — when a Wild Card game between the Chargers and Bengals featured wind chills of 59-below-zero and an Air Coryell offense stifled by the cold — but it's a hot prospect that makes this list.

Fair or unfair, Ryan Leaf embodies the "bust" label. Drafted second-fiddle to Peyton Manning in 1998, Leaf had a record of 4-14, tossing 13 touchdowns to 33 interceptions. And to make matters worse, Leaf took the opposite trajectory and suffered for the constant comparison. In just 21 games and 18 starts as a Charger, Leaf wasn't even a likeable loser. He had one of those faces, and a flair for tantrums.
Dirk Koetter weighs in on possibility of Peyton Barber solidifying a starting role

instead of returning to the type of running back we saw in 2015 that finished second in the NFL in rushing yards,It’s certainly no secret that Doug Martin has struggled all season long, Martin has struggled to record 100-plus yards in a game in over two years., even after returning from his four-game suspension for the use of performance enhancing substances. In fact

So, you can’t help but wonder if Barber would help the running game out by taking on a full-time starting role or even becoming Martin’s official replacement., after watching Peyton Barber have a career day versus the Packers on Sunday

coach Koetter was asked about the possibility of Barber holding on to the starting role. Koetter said there’s a chance it could happen.,During Monday’s press conference at One Buc Place

you’d do it. Unfortunately,” Koetter said. “Right now, we don’t have that option because Doug [Martin] is in the protocol still. If he can go out there and duplicate 165 yards rushing every week,“We will see when we get to that point, but yeah you’d love to.”, that’s not guaranteed. It’s not quite that easy

the possibility of Barber taking on a starting role should be an option the team considers moving forward no doubt.,Barber racked up a career-high 102 yards rushing and also led the Bucs with four catches for 41 yards. His 143 yards are the most a Tampa Bay running back has been able to produce all year. Considering Martin’s lack of production and explosiveness along with the running game’s inability to get anything going this season

After 25 years of winning games due to stellar quarterback play, which almost never happens in Green Bay. , the Packers finally flipped the script on themselves and won a game with ugly quarterback play

the Packers managed to do something with Brett Hundley on Sunday they've never done with Brett Favre or Aaron Rodgers: They won a game with less than 80 passing yards. ,As a matter of fact

The Packers mustered 77 yards through the air, but they also increased the chances that Rodgers could return at some point this season. , but they were still able to hang on to beat the Buccaneers 26-20 in a wild overtime game at Lambeau Field. Not only did the Packers keep their faint playoff hopes alive

so this victory was huge -- if it proved one thing,Rodgers has said he's going to return only if it makes sense, it's that Rodgers can't return soon enough. , and the only way it's going to make sense is if the Packers are in the playoff race

Green Bay's postseason hopes were kept alive by running back Jamaal Williams and a a desperate Packers defense that made big play after big play against the Bucs.,Hundley finished with only 84 passing yards -- a number that went down to 77 due to two sacks -- and he almost single-handedly killed the Packers' playoff chances. However

Packers fans weren't talking Williams after the game,On Williams' end, they were talking about another running back: Aaron Jones. , the rookie running back -- who had never rushed for more than 67 yards in a game this season -- exploded for 113 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries. Of course

Jones gave the Packers a walk-off win with a 20-yard touchdown run,Jones got only one carry the entire game, but he made it count. On the opening possession of overtime, there was definitely a Lambeau Leap involved. , and yes

he must have been taking notes during his time as a backup because he turned into Aaron Rodgers in overtime. Not only did Hundley throw for 30 of his 84 yards in the extra period,As for Hundley,Authentic Joel Heath Jersey, although he struggled for most of the game, Jones would win the game with his touchdown. , but he also converted a third-and-4 in OT by running for seven yards. Six plays later

but their pressure also led to a first-half touchdown. In the second quarter,Of course,Authentic D.J. Reader Jersey, Dean Lowry picked up a Winston fumble and returned it 62 yards for a touchdown. , the Packers probably don't even make it to overtime if not for one of the best defensive performances that Green Bay has turned in this year. Jameis Winston didn't have any breathing room as the Packers' pressure managed to suffocate him for nearly four quarters. Not only did the Packers sack Winston seven times

The seven sacks were the most the Packers had racked up in one game since 2015. Winston will probably be having nightmares about Clay Matthews after getting sacked 2.5 times by the Packers linebacker on Sunday.

It's a good thing that Rodgers might be coming back soon,Womens Jeff Allen Jersey, because the Packers definitely aren't built to win games without their quarterback. The win over the Bucs marked the first time since 1991 that Green Bay won a game with 80 yards or less in the passing department. That's pre-Favre and pre-Rodgers. That's 25 years of being carried by your quarterback. , though

and will be the team’s second game in a row on the road. Here are three keys to the game to watch out for in this NFC showdown:,The Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Week 13 matchup with the Green Bay Packers will be held at Lambeau Field

Jacquizz Rodgers and Peyton Barber will serve as the primary beneficiaries of increased touches versus the Packers. Peyton Barber was especially effective in the red zone last week against Atlanta,Authentic Corey Moore Jersey,1. During last week’s matchup with the Falcons,Womens Andre Hal Jersey, scoring two touchdowns for the Buccaneers and finding ways to avoid tackles. Barber in particular could be poised for a big game in Week 13., Tampa Bay’s starting running back Doug Martin experienced an injury that caused him to enter concussion protocol. Due to his absence for tomorrow’s game

Williams could also receive added carries against the Buccaneers this Sunday. For Tampa Bay to neutralize the Green Bay offense,2. Packers rookie running back Jamaal Williams has recently started to show flashes of brilliance, and depending on the health of Aaron Jones, something it has struggled with all season. Plugging potential run holes for Williams to hit will also be a key factor in how Tampa Bay’s defensive line performs on Sunday.,Authentic Jeff Allen Jersey, the Buccaneer defensive line will need to generate pressure on backup signal caller Brett Hundley

after compiling just 170 total yards and zero touchdowns in his last two games after being suspended. With Buccaneers starting quarterback Jameis Winston set to play for the first time in three weeks tomorrow as well,3. Lastly, the pair’s connection should be revitalized after being disconnected for an extended period of time. Look for Evans to get right back on track and play a big role in the team’s offensive game plan against the Packers., Tampa Bay’s stud wideout Mike Evans is long overdue for a huge game

never one to be the life of the party or a quotable media darling.,Todd Bowles is a man of few words in public

The New York Jets coach has won over his players for that very reason. It's the stuff that no one else sees that has his squad professing loyalty to the man leading the way.

as a player, I love him,"As a man," left tackle Kelvin Beachum said. "I'd run through a wall for him. I've only been here a year and I love everything about him.

"That's my coach."

in Todd,Yes, they trust.

Bowles comes across as dry, bland and unemotional. On the sideline,During his news conferences, some fans wish they'd see more fire, particularly when things aren't going the Jets' way.

however,That, isn't who Bowles is.

who's in his third season with the Jets and has one year left on his contract, handles his business behind closed doors. He saves his yelling — and,The 54-year-old coach, yes, he does quite a bit of it — for when he's out of earshot of the media. He treats his players like family and preaches team unity above all else.

but he's never too high and never too down," said cornerback Morris Claiborne,"He's an outgoing guy, in his first season with the Jets. "He's a straight shooter."

That approach has helped lead New York to a 5-7 mark that has surprised just about everyone outside of the Jets' training facility in Florham Park, New Jersey.

Bowles made a point during the offseason to hammer home his vision by displaying motivational messages throughout redecorated halls to serve as constant reminders to his players. The entire franchise also adopted his, "One Team,Speaking of which, One Goal," slogan.

the playoffs are still only a slight possibility,Sure, but the fact they're playing meaningful games in December is a credit to the work Bowles and general manager Mike Maccagnan have done over the last several months to turn a team that many thought would be laughable into a squad that is respectable.

"That's all noise," nose tackle Steve McLendon said. "At the end of the day, she-said, all he-said, we're the ones playing, not the ones saying that we're going to go 0-16 or whatever they were saying. It's not about them. It's completely about every one of us in that locker room who's putting on that uniform each and every week to go out there and compete for a win."

The Jets have been competitive just about every week this season. And that is a direct reflection on Bowles.

something not easily done when the odds seem so stacked. Up until a wild 38-31 win on Sunday against Kansas City,Womens Joel Heath Jersey,He has gotten this group to play hard, New York had lost five of its last six and blown fourth-quarter leads in three of those defeats. That's enough to sink a team and put a coach who's already on the hot seat right into the fire.

But this Jets squad has been a study in resilience.

" said 38-year-old quarterback Josh McCown,"It's hard not to give him the credit and I think he's done a heck of a job with our group, who's having the best season of his career. "His message has been the same week in and week out. And it's a reflection of him as far as just the mental toughness to go through the changes that we went through in the offseason.

he never wavered,"He was steady. His message never changed, he never complained. I think that was huge for us and I think that kind of steadiness for us is bearing fruit right now."

this is a collection of veterans, youngsters,Womens Corey Moore Jersey,The fact is, castoffs and drafted talents on a roster that lacks bona fide star power. New York might not even have a player selected for the Pro Bowl.

But there are some real pieces to build on as foundations. Second-year receiver Robby Anderson is emerging as a game-breaking threat after going undrafted last year. Defensive lineman Leonard Williams has played better after an early-season wrist injury. The defense has two potential stars with rookie safeties Jamal Adams and Marcus Maye, and middle linebacker Demario Davis has established himself as an emotional and playmaking leader.

"'One Team, and that's what's most important and he's preached that,Authentic Andre Hal Jersey, and we're going to win with the guys in this locker room, One Goal' has been our mantra all year," Beachum said. "He hasn't changed, he hasn't wavered."

but issues swift discipline. That was the case Sunday, when second-year linebacker Darron Lee was benched for the game for being late to a practice,Womens Stephen Anderson Jersey,Bowles also refuses to publicly criticize his players, and veteran DE Muhammad Wilkerson sat for the first quarter for being late to a team meeting.

"You treat everybody like grown men," Bowles said. "We have rules that we go by, and there are consequences and repercussions for everything that we do here, which they are, and you treat them like men. You put in a hard day's work,Authentic Stephen Anderson Jersey, and we take no wooden nickels. I don't believe in beating around the bush. I don't want anybody to beat around the bush with me.

"We have our fun, but we get our work in."

That's all made for an optimistic environment in which learning to win is an ongoing process — with Bowles setting the tone.

"I hope I'm here for a long time and I hope he's here for a long time, that's important, that you trust," Beachum said. "It's good for the game, because when you have coaches like that who you believe in, Womens D.J. Reader Jersey, good for our game as a team. Especially with all the ebbs and flows that we've had this season, he's remained steady."
discusses crucial moves Bucs need to make this offseason

the Bucs now find themselves sitting at 4-8 and their hopes of reaching a playoff appearance now virtually being dead following their 26-20 loss to the Green Bay Packers Sunday.,It’s evident that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have had one of the most disappointing seasons they’ve had. After winning the offseason

So, it’s safe to say Bucs Nation is ready for this season to end and also more determined than ever to have a good offseason and address the areas they need to work on. Fortunately,Womens Stephen Anderson Jersey, ESPN NFL Nation reporter Jenna Laine has already started working on figuring out the answer to the Bucs’ dilemma right now. Here’s a closer look at what Laine had to say:

The Bucs need help at edge rusher. There are no guarantees that Spence’s shoulder will hold up, that can’t happen in 2018. Veteran cornerback Brent Grimes is coming up on the end of his two-year contract and will be 35 years old in July.,Authentic Andre Hal Jersey, and no one is getting to the quarterback in one-on-one matchups outside. They also need to invest a significant draft pick in a running back, and Robert Ayers will be 33 years old next season. Gerald McCoy continues to take on double-teams, as Martin has shown no signs this year of returning to his 2015 Pro Bowl form, and with the struggles they had getting the running game going, too, despite what appeared to be a promising training camp. The Bucs neglected their offensive line this past offseason

Laine couldn’t be any more accurate about the Bucs’ offseason needs. There’s been a significant amount of pass rush this season, Martin has failed to be effective and really return to his prime 2015 form, the offensive line still needs to be addressed and the Bucs may also want to re-evaluate their struggling secondary as well.

what do you think Bucs Nation? Which area do the Bucs need to work on the most this offseason?,With that said

The Bucs came awfully close to notching a much-needed big win versus the Packers in Week 13 action. But a fourth quarter field goal by Green Bay within the final moments of the matchup tied the game up at 20 which forced the game to move into overtime. Despite Tampa Bay having the opportunity to clinch a win at Lambeau, a 20-yard touchdown run from Aaron Jones in overtime ultimately sealed Green Bay’s win, handing the Buccaneers their eighth loss of the season.

With the loss, the Bucs have now fallen to 4-8 this season and their hopes of reaching the post season for the first time since 2007 have taken a tremendous hit. However, they still have a few games left and the opportunity to finish the season strong. Their first step to ensure they do so will be this weekend when the Buccaneers return home to take on the Detroit Lions at 1 p.m. ET.

What’s to be done about this long-running animosity between the Steelers (10-2) and Bengals (5-7)? Do the teams encourage the mayhem by downplaying it? Do the NFL and the networks promote it by showing it in prime time every season?

its sixth straight win over the Bengals.,Those questions were raised in the aftermath of a game so brutal that it made viewers cringe. Pittsburgh rallied for a 23-20 victory at Paul Brown Stadium on Monday night

and fines for other players are expected later in the week.,What it’ll be remembered for, is how it felt more like a street brawl at times. The NFL responded by suspending Steelers receiver JuJu Schuster-Smith and Bengals safety George Iloka for one game each on Tuesday, though

” Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday.,Authentic Joel Heath Jersey,“I’ll acknowledge there were some unfortunate things in that game that we don’t need in our game — by both sides

with grudges deepening.,It’s been going on for years

Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier will remain in a Cincinnati hospital until at least today to undergo further testing on a spinal injury suffered in the first quarter.

Shazier left Paul Brown Stadium on a stretcher less than four minutes into the game following a tackle that left the 25-year-old writhing on the turf, his legs motionless. He underwent extensive testing overnight,Authentic D.J. Reader Jersey, with the team saying Shazier’s injury did not require surgery “at this time.”

The Steelers had hoped Shazier would be able to return to Pittsburgh on Tuesday. The timetable has been pushed back at least 24 to 48 hours. He remained at University of Cincinnati Medical Center under the care of neurosurgeons David Okonwko and Joseph Cheng. Shazier is expected to be transferred to a Pittsburgh hospital later in the week.

the relentlessly upbeat Shazier offered a bit of hope Tuesday evening.,While the severity of the injury will remain unknown until the swelling subsides

Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict — a focal point for much of the animosity — left the field on a cart with a concussion after Schuster-Smith leveled him with a blindside hit. The receiver then stood over the fallen linebacker to taunt him.

receiver Antonio Brown yelled: “Karma! It’s called karma!”,Authentic Corey Moore Jersey,As Schuster-Smith apologized for taunting after the game

The NFL’s letter to Schuster-Smith informing him of the suspension said the egregious hit and the taunting “fell far below the high standards of sportsmanship expected of an NFL player.”

but the NFL suspended the Bengals safety for the type of flagrant hit that has “no place in our game.”,Iloka hit Brown in the head after his touchdown catch tied the game in the fourth quarter. Brown wasn’t hurt

when Burfict made a twisting tackle on Le’Veon Bell that left the Steelers running back with a torn knee. Burfict celebrated — the Bengals say he was just happy to make a big play — but Bell and the Steelers took umbrage.,Those moments have defined the rivalry since 2015

Bengals coach Marvin Lewis — who has steadfastly defended Burfict — is finishing his contract and could be done in Cincinnati after a 15-year run. He’s 0-7 in the playoffs — including two losses to Pittsburgh — and he’s 8-24 against the Steelers overall.

Burfict will stay. He got a contract extension earlier this year while serving another three-game suspension for an egregious preseason hit. He also was ejected from a game in Tennessee for pushing an official’s arm away.

The question is how to keep it from turning a rivalry into a rumble.

“The rivalry is real,Authentic Stephen Anderson Jersey,” Bengals linebacker Kevin Minter said after the game. “We come for them, and they come for us.”

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin, including good friend and fellow inside linebacker Vince Williams.,Womens Jeff Allen Jersey, general manager Kevin Colbert and team president Art Rooney II visited Shazier before heading back to Pittsburgh. Tomlin called their conversation “normal” and said Shazier was concerned about the well-being of the rest of the team

“Ryan is a legitimate leader, Vince particularly. I told him about the guys. We talked about how the game unfolded.”,Womens Corey Moore Jersey,” Tomlin said. “He’s asking about the guys

The Bears placed right guard Kyle Long on injured reserve for the second straight season.

The three-time Pro Bowler has been trying to play through a left shoulder injury he suffered in 2016. He aggravated it during Sunday’s loss to the 49ers and sat out the second half.

ending their seasons.,The Bills placed wide receiver Jordan Matthews and defensive end Shaq Lawson on injured reserve

The Green Bay Packers are hoping to stay in the playoff chase long enough to potentially welcome back Aaron Rodgers from a collarbone injury.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers just put two starting offensive linemen on injured reserve and could be without starting running back Doug Martin because of a concussion.

They’re three games under .500 and are a longshot to get into the postseason for the first time since 2007.

A visit to Lambeau Field on Sunday to face the desperate Packers (5-6) does not seem like the ideal time for the last-place Buccaneers (4-7) to bring their injured starting quarterback Jameis Winston back from a shoulder injury.

when have we ever not done that?” Koetter said. “When does a player not come back and (return to being) a starter that week?”,“Jameis is going to start on Sunday. Any player that is ever back practicing

Backup Ryan Fitzpatrick guided the team to a 2-1 record during Winston’s absence. Winston has thrown for least 328 yards four times this season. Mike Evans is one of the league’s top receivers with 51 catches for 702 yards and four touchdowns.

It’s the third-best passing attack in the NFL (264.5 yards).

“Well,” Packers coach Mike McCarthy said. “But obviously a focal point for us defensively.”, big-time weapons. … You just look at the size and athletic ability of their perimeter group

Green Bay is 1-5 since Rodgers got hurt at Minnesota on Oct. 15. His replacement Brett Hundley showed progress during a 31-28 road loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers last week.

But the Packers can’t afford any more defeats if they’re going to make a ninth straight trip to the postseason.

” receiver Davante Adams said.,“We dug ourselves into a hole … It’s really must-win at this point

the earliest that Rodgers would be eligible to play would be Week 15 against Carolina.,Rodgers was eligible to start practicing this week if he was cleared medically. Even if that happened

the Packers would be in a position similar to the Buccaneers this week in deciding whether to bring back a talented starting quarterback so late in the season.,And if playoff hopes continue to fade

all the Packers can focus on is beating Tampa Bay. They face another winnable game in Week 14 at Cleveland.,For now

” linebacker Clay Matthews said.,Authentic Jeff Allen Jersey,“I don’t have any `relax’ one-liners or `run the table’ or whatever. I’ll leave that up to Aaron

we have a pretty good squad. That’s the reality of it.,“But we have to win these next two and when Aaron’s back at the helm

Winston’s return from a three-game absence coincides with the season-ending knee injuries to center Ali Marpet and right tackle Demar Dotson. They were both placed on injured reserve this week.

so he will play.,But Koetter said there is no greater risk for Winston to damage his shoulder than before his initial injury

“The player’s health is always the No. 1 thing for every football team,” Koetter said. “But if a player is at no more risk than whatever the normal risk is, then they’re going to play. That’s what they’re paid to do.”, and in the NFL that is substantial

Hundley bounced back from a four-turnover outing two weeks ago against the Baltimore Ravens by throwing for 245 yards and a career-best three touchdown passes last week at Pittsburgh.

and Hundley was sacked four times in the second half. But the Steelers game was a valuable learning experience in a nationally televised game played in a hostile road environment.,There is still plenty of improvement needed

“It comes with me being able to see (plays develop) better and the timing with the receivers, timing and getting the rhythm of all of it.”,Womens Joel Heath Jersey,” Hundley said. “It comes with experience

however they entered this season with heightened expectations after finishing 9-7 last season. Koetter rejects the notion that appearing on HBO’s “Hard Knocks” series during the preseason created additional pressure that’s had an adverse impact on the team.,The Bucs haven’t made the playoffs since 2007

“I say all the time, no one has higher expectations for us than we have for ourselves,Womens D.J. Reader Jersey,” Koetter said., so I don’t think anybody from the outside could create expectations

with the Packers ranking 25th (244.1 yards per game) and the Buccaneers allowing an NFL-high 284.6 yards per game through the air.,Womens Andre Hal Jersey,The game features two of the league’s less effective pass defenses

Green Bay does hope to get Matthews back from a groin injury to give the pass rush a kick-start after just one sack against Pittsburgh.
Knights Nuggets: Marc-Andre Fleury could return to practice this week

After what seems like a millennium or so, Marc-Andre Fleury could finally be back in practice this week! The return of Flower is nearing!

- The Golden Knights ended their three-game losing streak against the very pathetic Arizona Coyotes Sunday night and it felt oh so good.

- Even more pathetic than the Coyotes are the Buffalo Sabres, who are prepared to trade basically anyone on the team not named Jack Eichel. This could be fun. [SB Nation]

- If you haven’t seen the video of Viktor Arvidsson helping a fan propose to his wife, you need to do that this very second.

- Vancouver Canucks forward Derek Dorsett’s career is over after learning about health risks. Extremely sad news for the 30-year-old.

If you’re not already, be sure to follow us on Twitter and like our Facebook page for more news and notes on the Golden Knights.

unfortunately,A thing I think about a lot from the early days of hockey videos on the internet is this clip of a Japanese hockey player tapping the puck into a wide open net against Denmark. It was, his own net.

Very funny stuff, adidas Wayne Simmonds jersey, made the rounds for a few years, what the Japanese hockey press is like, covers his face in shame. Of course, everyone had a nice laugh. Look at the anguish as he realizes what he’s done. Throws his stick in the air, not knowing much about hockey in Japan or, indeed, one imagines that this guy didn’t get raked over the coals for scoring on his own team in a tie game (albeit one tied late in the second period).

like putting the puck into their own net,Authentic Shayne Gostisbehere jersey,And that’s how it should be, it also must be said that any time it happens, they shouldn’t really be made the subject of derision. However, right? When guys make what are very obviously outlier mistakes, it’s extremely funny.

So when the Edmonton media — and I swear this isn’t an Oilers-centric WWL for the third week in a row… well, it was a little silly. This was,Authentic Nolan Patrick jersey, after all, not all the way — circled the wagons around Kris Russell for his frankly unbelievable own goal last week, the same group of bozos who started a few days’ worth of discussion by saying Connor McDavid’s one bad game against the Stars (in which, by the way, he still had three points) was a sign that he needed to play better.

Just as you shouldn’t blame McDavid for that Stars game, since he was basically Edmonton’s only good player that night, and while Russell made what could easily be construed as the single biggest on-ice mistake in the NHL for at least the past few years, calamitous and hysterical as it was. Hockey is, you shouldn’t blame Kris Russell for the own goal, after all, a game of mistakes, it was nonetheless a mistake.

And it sucks for Russell, but because it painted over what had otherwise been a very good performance, turning a sterling effort into a shade of that Vantablack stuff that’s so black you can’t define any edges or qualities of the thing it’s painted over. Russell, not only because it happened, in fact, had two points (including a real live goal for his own team) and the Oilers out-attempted the Leafs 34-25 when he was on the ice. And yeah, that 25 counts the own goal.

The point is, though, Russell is quite bad — as long as you’re willing to face the music for your badness. These guys will protect you like the pass at Thermopylae, in part because he stands for everything only people over the age of 50 think is important in hockey: Blocking shots, that Russell was given this incredible benefit of the doubt in a way that McDavid was not, laying out hits, and being accountable. It doesn’t matter how bad you are — and for the contract he carries, and say that this is just another aspect of the game the nerdboys don’t understand.

again,The reason all this comes up now, is that Todd McLellan went off on a little rant about “analytics that,” which didn’t really make any sense, you don’t want to throw him under the bus. And that’s fine, really, but was kind of the tenor of the previous few days because in hockey, no matter how bad a guy screws up, because you’re married to Russell for two-plus more seasons unless you can find a sucker to come along and take his deal off your hands (maybe the Leafs; he scored an important goal for them recently), and also because – as they always say about goalies – you want guys to have “a short memory.”

Russell was fine again on Saturday night, and the reason why is that for all the proselytizing, Russell plays the fifth-most minutes per game this season, McLellan knows his true quality: He’s an okay bottom-pair guy who can contribute to the offense a little bit. Among Edmonton defensemen, which is perfectly reasonable if you ignore that Peter Chiarelli considers him a $4 million defenseman for whom the team moved Jordan Eberle to accommodate salary.

Which is, I think, there wasn’t a grand inquisition into what it Really Meant and it certainly wasn’t viewed on a referendum of analytics versus the eye test. Both goals were massively important in their respective games; one cost Edmonton two vital points, the ultimate issue at play here: People think Russell is good and worth the contract. They are wrong. When TJ Brodie scored into his own goal late in Saturday night’s game against Edmonton, and the other snuffed out what had been a furious Flames comeback. But no one in Calgary acted as though some grand crime had been committed by fans delighted by the gaffe.

This is mostly because the Calgary media, while a little fanboyish and given to fits of believing in the wrong stuff (see also: that time they made the playoffs with a high PDO and low CF%), isn’t so deranged as the people a few hours up the road.

while he makes more than Russell,But it’s also because Brodie, is correctly viewed as having turned sour after a few good years in his early 20s in which he showed a lot of promise. Maybe we chalk that up to “he got to play next to Mark Giordano when Mark Giordano should have won multiple Norrises” and also to “look who his partners have been since then” but nonetheless, “Brodie, there’s no one out there saying, actually, is good.”

They saw Russell in action for a few years and have likely come to understand what his value was and was not in a way many other observers (such as the GM of the Edmonton Oilers) likely haven’t.

The Corsi Wars, such as they are at this point, exist only in the minds of those whose side lost. They’re the Japanese soldiers discovered on remote islands in the 1960s who think they should still be on the ready to slaughter any GIs foolish enough to land on their beaches. If Bruce Boudreau is openly crediting Minnesota’s analytics department after a win with helping the coaching staff address a problem with their approach to the 3-on-3, then that’s the end of any real discussion here.

because of who thinks the guy it happened to is actually a good player. That’s it. No great mystery.,Authentic Connor Hellebuyck jersey,No one is or was judging Kris Russell on the basis of the own goal. It was just funny. Especially because of who it happened to. Or rather

everything else takes a nose dive. Last month,It just figures that as soon as the Flyers finally learn how to score - and at an efficient rate! - at 5v5, Philadelphia ranked 10th in the league in 5v5 goals-for percentage, now they sit fourth in the NHL behind only St. Louis, Columbus, and the scorching hot Tampa Bay Lightning. What’s been the main cause of this rise? They’ve allowed the fewest 5v5 goals in the NHL at a mark of 36.

Obviously, this is extremely encouraging for the Flyers regardless of what the record is. Having dependable 5v5 goal scoring is key for a good hockey team. The problem,Authentic Wayne Simmonds jersey,Authentic Sidney Crosby jersey, is where that goal scoring is coming from. Or in this case, however, where it is not coming from.

Lack of scoring depth is huge concern

Sean Couturier,The top line of Claude Giroux, and Jakub Voracek has been the most impressive part of this rendition of the Philadelphia Flyers. The trio hold the top three spots in 5v5 goal scoring, with Giroux and Couturier on the ice for 25,Authentic Claude Giroux jersey, adidas Sidney Crosby jersey, and Voracek only one goal behind in 24. The next highest Flyers forward has been on the ice for twelve 5v5 goals, Travis Konecny.

hell at this rate every line but the top line has been a problem. But that puts it into perspective just how ineffective the other three lines have been this season.,We know the middle six is a problem

At the end of October, the Flyers ranked 18th in raw CF% in the NHL with 49.20%. They saw an extremely small increase in November — going up to an even 50% at 1, as expected,082 corsi-for and -against — which ranks for 16th and 17th in the NHL respectively. The high point for the month came against the Vancouver Canucks in that brutal 5-2 loss on home ice. The low point, came in their last game of the month against the San Jose Sharks.

was shot selection a factor in the nightmare that was November?,adidas Shayne Gostisbehere jersey,With 5v5 goal scoring thriving

but not great either,Shot selection not bad

At the end of October I talked about how the Flyers were generating more chances from the home plate area and getting away from firing point shots mostly without a screen. This month, however, those old tendencies reared their ugly head a few times, primarily in the back-to-back shutout losses vs. Minnesota.

A seemingly constant theme this year has been: “take higher percentage shots, but do nothing about continually allowing high percentage shots”. Way too often the Flyers are allowing teams to be in the red right in front of the net or in the slot. Take a page out of Minnesota’s book and tighten up play in that area, force teams to the outside, and make them take point shots without screens. That has been a main issue of mine with the point shots the Flyers do take.

How many times are we going to see Brandon Manning take a weak wrist shot from the point with absolutely no forward in front of the net? Point shots are obviously not of the highest quality, but they can be effective if done properly and that is where the Flyers fail. A staple with previous teams has been get bodies to the front of the net and hope for a deflection. Well, Hakstol has the second part down but somehow not the first. There are minor tweaks that his system needs for it to be better, and this is one of them.

There were just five Flyers who’s raw CF% decreased from the end of October to the end of November, and despite Voracek being a part of those five, this is a good sign. Most of the Flyers roster has improved in driving play over the past month despite the obvious struggles to win games. Sean Couturier taking the team lead in CF% should come as a surprise to no one, as he’s finally putting together a Selke trophy winning season.

the Flyers are not as bad as this losing streak makes them look. It’s rare when any team is as bad as a losing streak like this suggests and,Obviously, thankfully, this isn’t one of those times. I don’t know how to explain what is going on with this team, but I think it’s something analytics aren’t going to explain. Whether it’s the attitude of the players or simply the way the coach is leading his team, something beyond the numbers is happening with the Flyers.

the Anaheim Ducks. Can the Preds bring their November winning ways into December?,The Nashville Predators square off against their least favorite fowl foe

Thursday’s outing against Vancouver didn’t end as well as many Predators fans thought it should. A boring first period, a squandered lead, and a missed offsides call led to a 5-3 loss to the Canucks. There were some obvious defensive gaps, and another failure to close out the game left many folks bitter (specifically me).

an impressive feat. They broke a franchise record for power play goals scored at home. This team has all the right pieces to continue to compete. Our boys are doing just fine.,BUT. It’s December. The Predators accumulated 21 of a possible 28 points in November

and his timetable for a Christmas-New Years return has not changed.,All I want for Christmas is a healthy Ryan Ellis. He’s skating with the team now

I am positive the Predators want to continue to see more wins as they jockey for position in the Central...which brings us to...

Tonight, the Preds face the Ducks for their second contest of the season. This is the first time the dirty Ducks return to Bridgestone since the Predators destroyed their Cup hopes in June, and they’ll be looking to exact some revenge on a relentless Nashville crowd.

At least we don’t have to see Ryan Kesler on the ice. He’s still recovering from offseason hip surgery.

so the Predators will see a tired Anaheim group tonight.,The Ducks faced off against Columbus last night. They’re on the second half of a back-to-back

our friends at Anaheim Calling recently published an interesting article that calls Anaheim’s trade decision into question.,The most interesting Anaheim news in the last week is the trade that saw the Ducks send defenseman Sami Vatanen to New Jersey for forwards Adam Henrique and Joseph Blandisi. It’s no secret that Anaheim needs some forwards because of their injury issues this season. However

and one can only imagine what the asking price may have been. Looking at what both Nashville and Ottawa both had to give up,Matt Duchene’s influence looms large over this deal. The Ducks were reportedly after the newly-minted Ottawa Senator, it’d be reasonable to believe that one of Jacob Larsson or Marcus Pettersson were on the table. Murray was presumably ready to pay that price, given Anaheim’s both present and future need for a young, dynamic forward. Once that fell through, Murray set his sights on Henrique...

Vatanen’s departure naturally reveals quite a bit about where the front office stands on a number of issues, while opening up even more questions. Clearly, they don’t see one of Wagner or Grant in this lineup full-time. Vermette’s job feels safe, they trust Brandon Montour to step onto the second defense pairing. We’ll see how he and Fowler fare together. Also just as clearly, purely based on his elite faceoff ability.

Captain Ryan Getzlaf is out after taking a puck to the face in late October, an injury that required surgery. Jakob Silfverberg was injured last week, as was Rickard Rakell. Both Getlzaf and Kesler are skating regularly, but don’t expect to see them on this trip.

with 18 and 17 points respectively.,Rickard Rakell and Corey Perry lead the Ducks in points

but was recalled a few games ago. He has one assist in 7 games.,Former Milwaukee Admiral Mike Liambas is currently with Anaheim after signing with the organization in the offseason. Liambas started the season with the AHL Gulls

relieving Gibson in two. He has a .935 save percentage on the season.,Starting goalie John Gibson is 8-9-1 on the season with a .921 save percentage. Backup Ryan Miller has played in six games

As mentioned earlier, the Preds set an incredible pace in November, and Pekka Rinne continued his stellar goaltending. Filip Forsberg broke some records, boasting a 10-3-1 record. We saw the resurgence of Craig Smith and the emergence of Kevin Fiala after the Kyle Turris trade. Nick Bonino returned from his injury, and the third and fourth lines found their groove.

even the polarizing Alexei Emelin. Anthony Bitetto impressed everyone with his play after Yannick Weber’s injury. Mattias Ekholm broke his own scoring record. An impressive November indeed.,adidas Connor Hellebuyck jersey,The defensive corps remained solid

Will the Predators be able to continue this play into December?adidas Claude Giroux jersey, Will Anders Lindback get to start a game before he’s sent back down to Milwaukee? Will Pontus Aberg ever score? Is a scratched Cody McLeod the best McLeod? These answers…and more….will be found in December.

but the Predators need to bounce back after a lackluster contest against Vancouver.,These Western Conference foes present a challenge each outing

The Preds secured a 5-3 victory over the Ducks in Anaheim early in November. Pekka Rinne made 35 saves on his 35th birthday for the win.

it should come as no surprise to witness the reactions to Kris Russell‘s jaw-dropping,So, really, adidas Nicklas Backstrom jersey, game-deciding own-goal from the Edmonton Oilers’ painful regulation loss against the Toronto Maple Leafs last night.

tragic,In case you missed it, drop what you’re doing and watch this. It’s profoundly strange, and honestly unforgettable:

After the horrible news regarding Derek Dorsett,Authentic Michael Hutchinson jersey, the Canucks put together one of their most memorable games in the last two seasons.

There was a real ‘playoff feel’ against the defending champs of the Western Conference. ‘Brockstar’ and reigning rookie of the month Brock Boeser had two goals, including the game winner. Nikolay Goldobin was solid in his season debut, setting up the game-winner.

Oh, and some guy named Daniel Sedin got his 1000th point in the NHL.

Just when you thought you couldn’t top all of that mayhem from Thursday, the Maple Leafs rolled into town.

Gone are the days of the Canucks dominating the Leafs. Those ten years were great for Canucks fans, but the wrath of Toronto has bestowed itself upon Vancouver in recent years.

The Leafs have 4-1-1 against the Canucks since busting the ten-year winless streak against them in February, 2014. These Leafs are a lot more dangerous than the crew that beat Vancouver on that night.

On Thursday night against the Edmonton Oilers, they turned the beleaguered Edmonton defence inside out, peppering Laurent Brossoit with 35 shots. Many of those chances were of the Grade-A variety.

They’ve been peppering goalies all season long. Toronto is fifth overall in even-strength scoring chances, and second in even-strength goals.

The Leafs are hot lately, going 7-2-1 in their last ten. Although the Tampa Bay Lightning have two games in hand, the Leafs are only one point behind them.

As good as their offence is, Toronto still gives up a lot. This game could be a track meet. Last time that was a predicted outcome against the New York Islanders, it didn’t go so well

Ok, enough with the negativity. There are a lot of good things happening with this team right now.

The 3-2-1 road trip should be considered a success, and it ended on a high note after strong performances from a few key players.

Boeser and his 13 goals are now up to seventh in the league. On his wing, Goldobin showed promise that he can play and create offence in the NHL. A second great game tonight would go a long ways to solidifying his spot on the Canucks roster.

The other glaring positive to come out of that way was the play of the Sedins and Loui Eriksson. Their line combined for eight points, showing the promise that Jim Benning surely envisioned when he signed Eriksson to that mammoth contract.

Eriksson has looked superb since coming back from injury. The Sedins, in limited minutes, secondary scoring should be a factor in a game that had lots of offensive promise.

GAME DAY PREVIEW: Vancouver Canucks vs. Toronto Maple Leafs - Dec. 2/17

Oh, and some guy named Daniel Sedin got his 1000th point in the NHL.

Just when you thought you couldn’t top all of that mayhem from Thursday, the Maple Leafs rolled into town.

It’s always an entertaining affair when the NHL’s most-watched team enters Rogers Arena. Those dreaded Maple Leafs fans infect our arena, aggravating fans all across Vancouver.

That,Authentic Carter Hutton jersey, and the Leafs are actually good.

but Derek Dorsett and the Vancouver Canucks announced that the gritty winger has been shut down for the season because of a persistent neck injury.,Maybe this news shouldn’t be a shock

Nerve injuries are nothing to screw around with. Broken bones will heal but nerve damage can last a lifetime. The fact that Dorsett came back and played like he was never injured was a testament to how hard this guy wanted to play. It’s also scary that Dorsett played hard and had a few fights this season even though the injury turned out to be chronic.

For the Canucks now, adidas Michael Hutchinson jersey, and someone will have to step up in his absence, they will be without one of their biggest leaders in the locker room. It’s a swift and unexpected blow for the young team

or can they bring one home for Dorsett?,The Canucks will face their toughest test of the road trip tonight in Nashville. Will they buckle under the pressure

Nashville is one of the last teams I would want to face right now as a player.,On paper

So many things are going right for the organization. The defence is once again playing as the league’s best. The Predators lead the league in points from the back end with 61 points (64 if you count the departed Samuel Girard).

the Canucks as a defensive unit have four goals and 32 points.,On the other end of the rink

the Finnish netminder is among the league’s best goalies with a 14-3-2 record and a .928 save percentage.,As much as goalie Pekka Rinne takes flak for his inconsistencies

The Preds are also 10-1-1 in their last 12 games. They haven’t lost in regulation since they dropped a 6-4 game to the Minnesota Wild on Nov. 16th.

They also have one of the best home records in the league at 9-1-1 overall. It feels like the Canucks have seen this before on the road trip?

This will undoubtedly be a stiff test for the Canucks. The Preds will be a measuring stick for the Canucks to see how they fare against the league’s elite.

who hasn’t done much of anything while he’s been in the lineup.,The other glaring option would be Alex Burmistrov

If Goldobin can impress, what really separates these two teams offensively is defencemen., it would bring a much-needed scoring punch to the Canucks lineup. However

The Canucks have six forwards who have at least 12 points, but six if you count Turris’ production through nine games in Nashville., and seven if you count Eriksson’s pace. The Preds have five

As mentioned before, the Preds lead the league in points from the back end. P.K. Subban, Roman Josi and Mattias Ekholm all have more than 15 points. The Canucks highest scoring defenceman is Michael Del Zotto, who has one goal and nine points in 25 games.

Although Derrick Pouliot has looked good, more is needed offensively from the likes of Ben Hutton, Alex Edler, and Troy Stecher. All of these defenceman have shown scoring prowess in the past. It’s unlikely the Canucks will move up the standings until the defence can start to contribute more on offence.

Vancouver Canucks forward Derek Dorsett, has been told that he shouldn’t play anymore because of health risks., a player known for his high energy physical play

Dorsett. 30, is suffering from cervical disc herniation, and was evaluated by famed sports injury surgeon, Dr. Robert Watkins.

Quick Strikes: Shifting Tyler Johnson to Stamkos' wing sparks two goals

You can never read enough news about a Tampa Bay Lightning victory, right? Especially when Jon Cooper took a gamble with the lineup, and produced a miracle. Tyler Johnson was able to spark his fifteen-game goal drought to produce not one but two goals yesterday.

“Star Wars night was celebrated in wonderful fashion at Amalie Arena and the Lightning put on a great performance to get back into the win column. The previous road trip displayed sloppy play, regression, and a perceived lack of motivation from Tampa Bay. Seeing them get a few days of rest and come out as strong as they did this evening is a good sign that their slight slump was merely a road bump on their stellar season so far.”

Coach Pete DeBoer isn’t hiding his disappointment over the latest injury to hit the Sharks dressing room.

After Martin Jones and Tim Heed suffered injuries on Nov. 25,adidas Shayne Gostisbehere jersey, the Sharks took a jab on the chin when Joonas Donskoi left Tuesday’s game against the Philadelphia Flyers with what DeBoer is calling a, “mid-to-lower body injury.”

The good news is that the Sharks (13-8-2) are labelling Donskoi’s ailment as a “day-to-day” injury. The 25-year-old Finn will be sidelined for Friday’s game against the Florida Panthers (10-12-2) in Sunrise, Fla., but DeBoer said the injury “doesn’t look like it’s serious.”

Nevertheless, the timing couldn’t be worse.

After struggling through his second-NHL season last year, Donskoi is delivering on the challenge that DeBoer laid out for him in training camp, putting together a bounce back season with seven goals and 12 points in 23 games. At this point, Donskoi is one of the only forwards producing on a team that ranks 31st in the NHL in five-on-five goals (34).

The last thing the Sharks wanted was for Donskoi to hit a snag after he battled injuries to his shoulder and foot throughout a large chunk of the 2016-17 season.

“You’re disappointed for him because he’s just rolling,” DeBoer said. “He’s had some injuries over the last two years that have derailed him, so you don’t want him to get off the track that he was on.

“I don’t think he will. I think he’s in a different place than he was a year ago.”

2. Ryan Carpenter rejoins lineup for homecoming in Florida.

Carpenter won’t need any extra inspiration when he rejoins the Sharks lineup Friday. He’ll receive a reminder of the unlikelihood of his journey to the NHL when he suits up for his first home-state game with his parents and sister in the crowd.

hockey in his future when he first started playing hockey in Orlando around the age of seven.

“As a kid, you don’t really think about the path that it would take to get here,” Carpenter said. “When you’re older, you realize it’s a wind about way. It’s definitely not a hot bed.”

Carpenter, who grew up in suburban Orlando, fell in love with the sport by going to see the Orlando Solar Bears play live in the now-defunct International Hockey League. His bantam hockey squad drew kids in from all over the state — Tampa to Jacksonville — because there weren’t enough quality players in Orlando to form a competitive team.

“There were times where we went and played tournaments in Minnesota, Canada or Boston, and you’d get your butt whipped a couple times,” Carpenter said. “You’d realize how good the hockey players out there are that are your age.”

After going as far as he could with the sport in Florida, Carpenter moved north at age 16 to play minor hockey in Michigan. From there, adidas Ivan Provorov jersey, he went on to play junior hockey with the United States Hockey League’s Sioux City Musketeers and NCAA hockey at Bowling Green before signing a contract with the Sharks organization as an undrafted free agent in March 2014.

Carpenter’s NHL dream will come full circle when he takes the ice in Sunrise Friday.

“It’s cool,” he said. “I remember having a Panthers jersey when I was a kid, adidas Ivan Provorov jersey, a little one playing street hockey wearing it.”

3. Dell will start back-to-back games for the first time in his NHL career.

Dell will carve a new hole into his belt Friday when he starts back-to-back games for the first time in his NHL career.

The Sharks backup started Tuesday’s game because Martin Jones suffered a minor injury on Nov. 25, and he’s likely getting the nod against the Panthers because DeBoer wants to save his No.1 goalie for Saturday’s showdown with the NHL’s top team, the Tampa Bay Lightning.

“It’s just another game for me,Authentic Travis Konecny jersey,” Dell said. “I had a couple days off in between, so it’s not like it was straight back to backs or anything. I just need to prepare the same way I always do.”

Jones’ return to health is good news for the Sharks as DeBoer declined on Tuesday to guarantee his return to the crease during the team’s four-game road trip. With Jones ready to go, the Sharks reassigned Antoine Bibeau to the AHL Barracuda Thursday.

Kevin Labanc will rejoin the Sharks lineup Friday as Danny O’Regan will serve as a healthy scratch. Heed is still day-to-day with an upper-body injury suffered on Nov. 25.

This is Florida’s second trip to Carolina in less than a month. The Hurricanes won 3-1 last month with goalie Scott Darling in the net.

Darling was taking responsibility after Friday night’s loss.

“We don’t have a big margin of error right now, and just move forward and try and fix the little things that didn’t work and get it done next game.”,” Darling said. “We just get ready for the next game. You can’t dwell on this. You’ll learn from it

Peters isn’t about to blame the goaltending.

Especially because the Giants have rookie third-rounder Davis Webb on the bench, with Sterling Shepard's status still very much up in the air as he recovers from migraines, and haven't given him an in-game snap since the preseason finale. Chiefs OC Matt Nagy will call plays vs. Jets

In an effort to change things up after weeks of offensive inadequacy, Chiefs coach Andy Reid plans to hand over the play-calling duties to offensive coordinator Matt Nagy for Sunday’s game against the New York Jets.

Mortensen also reported that, while quarterback Alex Smith has the full support of Reid, Smith’s performance Sunday will determine how short of a leash he’ll receive for the remainder of the season.

Despite always having an offensive coordinator (sometimes two), Reid has always called offensive plays in Kansas City for the most part. Nagy does help with play-calling during games but Reid has always had the final say.

The past few weeks have been rough for the Chiefs offense. It has struggled to put up points even against lowly defenses while both Smith and running back Kareem Hunt have stumbled in finding production. The offense’s recent ineptitude has caused KC to lose its last three games, so it’s not much of a surprise to see Reid shake things up.

Lately most analysts have leaned the Chiefs’ way in terms of predictions.

Often, around 90 percent or more of analysts have predicted a Kansas City victory despite the team’s recent struggles.

including three blown leads in the fourth quarter. If the Jets can get a win this week, not wins and losses. But if the Jets keep losing winnable games with late meltdowns,Jets: This is a young, for another week, in their slim playoff chances. But if they keep losing, coach Todd Bowles' seat will start to get hot. Yes, it would be a sign that they're learning how to close out games against good teams. And it would allow them to believe, developing team that has shown flashes of a potentially bright future. But the Jets need a win in the worst way to prove that they're building something tangible. They've lost five of the last six games, ownership has said that Bowles will be judged on showing progress, it will be hard to argue that is a step in the right direction.

Chiefs: The bad news is that Kansas City has also lost five of its last six games. But the Chiefs (6-5) started so well that they're still in control of the AFC West. It's impossible to overstate the importance of this game for Kansas City, which is playing its second game at MetLife Stadium in the last three weeks -- two weeks ago the Chiefs lost to the Giants, 12-9 in overtime here. Now they return with their season at a crossroads. A win and the slump is over and the Chiefs are two games over .500 and in good shape to win the division heading into the final quarter of the season. A loss drops them to .500 and puts them in a dogfight with a Chargers team that seems to have found itself in the second half of the season.

Kansas City tight end Travis Kelce vs. Jets safeties Jamal Adams and Marcus Maye: Jamal Adams and Marcus Maye have played their rookie season with the poise of veterans. They insist they no longer feel like rookies. And they're about to get a massive test in slowing down Travis Kelce. Adams and Maye will likely combine on coverage against Kelce, who leads the Chiefs in targets (87), receiving yards (777) and receiving touchdowns (5). Kelce has lived on chunk plays this season, receptions (62), with 14 catches of 20 yards or more. It will be especially important to keep him in check early; Kansas City's offense has been struggling and a big play early by Kelce could get things jump started.

Jets: If the defense continues to play the way it did against Carolina last week, they'll be right there. The big question mark is the offense. After the debacle in Tampa, the Jets should have a good chance in this game. The Jets have given up only three touchdowns to the opposing offense in the last two games. If they can hold Kelce and running back Kareem Hunt in check (he's second in the NFL with 890 rushing yards), the Jets showed big improvement offensively against Carolina last week. But there was still too much inconsistency -- especially in the red zone. Look for the Jets to test former cornerback Darrelle Revis, who returns to the Meadowlands for his Chiefs debut -- especially on a deep ball if he's lined up against Robby Anderson. If the Jets make a few big plays and capitalize on their scoring chances, they'll likely win.

Chiefs: The Chiefs need to find a way to make a big-time play, fourth-quarter punt return to the Panthers. And the Chiefs have one of the best weapons on the NFL in Tyreek Hill. A big play by Hill could change everything. Also, something they've failed to do too often during this midseason malaise. That spark could come from special teams. The Jets are coming off a bad week, giving up a back-breaking, the Jets' offensive line has been disappointing lately and starting right guard Brian Winters his banged up (listed as questionable with an ankle injury). If the Chiefs, led by Justin Houston (8.5 sacks) can put pressure on McCown, they should be able to disrupt the Jets' offense enough to have a chance.

Darrelle Revis will make his season debut for the Kansas City Chiefs against his former team, the New York Jets – and as a captain, no less.

Gang Green has spent this week trying to figure out how to solve its fourth-quarter problems entering their game Sunday with the Chiefs. The Jets have blown fourth-quarter leads in three of their past four losses. They have been outscored 113-47 in the fourth quarter this year.

.,The latest problem came last week against the Panthers when a 20-18 lead evaporated thanks to numerous Jets mistakes down the stretch

The Jets have found themselves taking that last punch too often. That is a big reason they are 4-7 and likely going to miss the playoffs for a seventh straight season.
